Charles “Poppy” Bergman, 76, of Potomac died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

A celebration of life service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Potomac Church of Christ. The Rev. Randy Walters officiated.

Mr. Bergman was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Indiana, Pa., a son of Charles and Matilda Bergman He married Helen Cornell, May 12, 1958, in Paris Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Brad (Connie) Bergman of Bismarck; one daughter Kathy (Ricky) Fayard of Bismarck; one brother, Ron (Chris) Bergman of Greensburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Willie Bergman.

Mr. Bergman was in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. He served during the Vietnam War and rose to the rank of master sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as chief of police for Potomac and at Wal-Mart as a door greeter; he also worked at the ammunition disposal warehouse in Rantoul and at both the high school and grade school in Armstrong. He enjoyed the Pittsburgh Steelers and fishing with his family.
