SMSgt Cecil Pixley

We are sad to announce that on February 23, 2020, at the age of 87, Cecil Clayton Pixley of Roxboro, North Carolina passed away with his loving wife by his side at their home. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Royal B. Pixley and Mary Elizabeth Clayton Pixley. He is preceded in death by his siblings: R.B. Pixley, Jr., David Pixley, Lawrence Pixley, L.C. Pixley, Ollie Sue Wilkins, Louise Bailey and Margaret Carlton. Mr. Pixley served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and 1 day from 1951-1971 including the Korean War where afterwards he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to enjoying his time with family and friends, his love of travel, which was ignited during his 20 years of military service, never waned. He took many trips to Myrtle Beach with his wife and family and attended eighteen reunions in Savannah, GA with the 375th Bomb Squadron and his Air Force buddies.

He served as the “Mayor” of Bojangles’ for over 25 years and looked forward to his morning “meetings” with his many friends (old and new) and the friendly Bojangles’ staff. In recent years, a “lunch crew” developed and Chuck set out with these friends to visit 281 restaurants within 100 miles of Roxboro and travel in excess of 100,000 miles. The memories of these adventures were priceless for him.

He also enjoyed spending time at S.P. Gentry’s store, a place that was special to him for his entire life. Chuck loved people and he loved life. His incredible memory and recall enabled him to share his stories with everyone he came into contact with. We will all miss his stories.

Mr. Pixley is survived by his loving wife, Nora Martin Pixley; his children who will do their very best to make him proud every day, and a host of other family, relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held at Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Bethel Hill Baptist church by the Dr. Fred Lowery and Evangelist Charlie Stevens. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Hill Baptist Church, Building and Grounds Committee, 201 Old US HWY 501, Roxboro, NC, 27574.
