Clyde Welch

TSgt (R) Clyde Welch

Sept. 19, 1932 – Jan. 20, 2014 “Sid” as he was known to family and friends, passed from this earth at his home after a long illness. Born in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, to parents Clyde and Agnes (Boudin) Welch, he was proud of his Native American heritage. Sid entered the US Air Force in Wisconsin and served 22 years. While stationed in Calif., he met the love of his life, Virginia Bishop, and they married on July 10, 1955, in Winters, Calif. After moving back to Wisconsin, they expanded their family with two daughters, Lee Ann and Joan. Over the course of his military career, the family was stationed in France, England and Florida. His final duty station was in Holland, where he retired as a Tech Sgt. The family returned to Vacaville in July 1972. Never one to be idle, Sid took a job in the Athletic Department at UC Davis, which he held for 22 years. Still feeling he needed more to do; Sid took a job at Pearson’s Florist as a delivery driver. He prided himself on knowing the streets and neighborhoods of the town, and enjoyed seeing the smiles his deliveries made. Sid could always come back with a witty comment, and was sometimes a prankster among his friends and family. He was predeceased by both his parents, and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two daughters, and three granddaughters, Jessica Parr in Pennsylvania, Amanda and Allison Swihart in Tennessee, and members of his extended family, his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. An avid Green Bay Packer fan. He will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbors and all those who knew him. A memorial service was held at Community Presbyterian Church, at 425 Hemlock St., Vacaville, on Feb. 15, at 11 a.m
