Obituary

Lt. Col. George G. Braue, USAF (Ret.), 88, passed away on November 25, 2016 in San Antonio. George graduated from Caldwell High School and was inducted in the Caldwell High School Hall of Fame, class of 1947 for football, basketball and baseball. He honorably served his country for over 28 years, serving in the Navy and then the Air Force, during WWII and Vietnam. Lt. Col. Braue’s service ranged from, Jet Pilot, Physiological Training Officer, Life Sciences, crash investigations and life support. Lt. Col. Braue was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, 1963-1965 & 1971-1975 and the United States of America Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. He was an amazing husband, loving father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, was an avid Spurs fan, and enjoyed photography, working with his hands and music. Many say he was a very generous man with his military and life experiences. One of his proudest moments was being able to be part of Operation Home Coming, serving as an escort officer for two Vietnam POWs, assisting them and preparing them for their return home. After his laryngectomy, he worked with the American Cancer Society giving Tobacco Talks to schools, churches and businesses. He was affectionally known as “Ole Blue Eyes” by his nieces. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Thelma Braue; his grandparents, Charles and Louisa Braue Sr., and a brother, Bill Braue. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Louise Braue; 3 children, Scott Braue (Beth), Christy Rastellini (David), and Mark Braue (Louise Forrest); 3 grandchildren, Ryan, Rhiana, and ShayLyn. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. SERVICE FRIDAY DECEMBER 9, 2016 12:00 P.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL Inurnment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Wounded Warriors, Paralyzed Veterans, American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Hospital.

Wednesday, November 7 2016 Update

George Braue’s Funeral Arrangements have been postponed because Lou Braue, his wife, has gone into BAMC Hospital to possibly have Open Heart Surgery.
