SMSgt (Ret) Joe Caldwell, Sr. of Ball, LA

August 31, 1943 – December 27, 2016

Mr. Caldwell served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1980 and served during the Vietnam Conflict and retired with a rank of SMSgt. During his time of service, he was a Master Jumper and survival instructor and taught the American Astronauts in jumping and survival skills before they went into space during the 1960’s. He taught math at Tioga Junior High and retired from Rapides Parish Schools after 20 years of service. Joe was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1736, a Master Mason, a Shriner, a proud LSU Alumni and huge football fan of LSU, the Saints, and the Tennessee Volunteers. He loved his family and his animals, but his first love was his wife, Joy. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly.

His parents, Glen and Bobbie Stiles Caldwell, preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Joy Caldwell; son, Joe Caldwell, Jr. and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Joy Caldwell Ward and husband, Shane; brother, Jeff Terry; sisters, Donna Goodman, and Ellen Hutchinson; grandchildren, Shane Ward, Jr., Jeremy Caldwell, Trey Ward, Jacob Caldwell and Chase Ward, and a host of other family members and friends.
